DeepOcean and Woodside Complete Dual-Scope Subsea Inspection and 3D Scanning Campaign

DeepOcean and Woodside Energy have successfully completed a groundbreaking combined subsea inspection and 3D scanning campaign at the Sangomar field offshore Senegal, marking a significant advancement in underwater technology and subsea operations.

Campaign Scope: 69 Subsea Structures

The comprehensive campaign covered 69 subsea structures, including 17 subsea trees, using an innovative methodology that allows inspection and 3D scanning to be performed simultaneously — a first for the industry.

Innovation: Half the Time, Double the Data

DeepOcean's dual-scope approach enabled the work to be completed in slightly more than half the time required for two separate operations, while significantly increasing the amount of data collected.

Advanced Technology Stack

The operation deployed remotely operated vehicles (ROVs) equipped with specialized scanning systems to generate digital 3D models using photogrammetry techniques. The complete technology package included inspection engineers, ROV pilots, specialized scanning equipment, data processing software for CAD integration, ROV footage, sonar imaging, digital twin technology, and proprietary subsea 3D imaging software.

About Sangomar Field

Operated by Woodside, the Sangomar deepwater oil field is located approximately 100 km south of Dakar, Senegal. Production commenced in June 2024.

Industry Impact

"We have developed a remotely supported holistic system that allows us to conduct both operations simultaneously — enabling us to cut vessel days and costs for the operator," said Oyvind Mikaelsen, CEO of DeepOcean.
