Offshore Wind Environment -- Material Requirements

The offshore wind environment combines:

  • Constant seawater immersion (shallow to 100 m tidal zones)
  • Strong currents and wave-driven mechanical loading
  • Marine biofouling (barnacles, mussels) on external surfaces
  • Salinity 3.5% NaCl, pH 7.5-8.3
  • Temperature cycles from -5 deg C (North Sea winter) to +30 deg C (tropical offshore)

RV Power Group addresses this with 316L stainless steel shells (or duplex SS for ultra-long deployments), EPDM O-rings for UV/ozone resistance, and polyurethane cable overmolds that resist hydrolysis and biological attack.
