Offshore Wind Power
Underwater Connectors for Offshore Wind Power
Offshore wind farms rely on subsea electrical systems for inter-array cable connections, turbine foundation penetrations, and subsea monitoring instrumentation. RV Power Group manufactures IP68-rated connectors and penetrators designed for the corrosive, mechanically demanding environment of offshore wind installations.
Offshore Wind Electrical Connection Applications
| Application | Connector Solution | Key Performance Requirement |
|---|---|---|
| Turbine Foundation Monitoring | Micro Circular Connectors | Vibration resistance, IP68 |
| Scour Monitoring Sensors | Micro Circular + Ethernet Connectors | 100BASE-TX data, 50-m depth |
| Corrosion Protection (ICCP) Sensors | Penetrators / Single-contact connectors | Reference electrode signal, low resistance |
| Subsea Inspection Camera | Low Profile + Coaxial Connectors | HD video, compact housing |
| Metocean Sensor Buoys | Subsea Circular Standard | Wave/current/temp data transmission |
| Subsea Junction Box Penetrations | Split-Type Penetrators | IP68, 500 VDC insulation resistance |
Offshore Wind Environment -- Material Requirements
The offshore wind environment combines:
- Constant seawater immersion (shallow to 100 m tidal zones)
- Strong currents and wave-driven mechanical loading
- Marine biofouling (barnacles, mussels) on external surfaces
- Salinity 3.5% NaCl, pH 7.5-8.3
- Temperature cycles from -5 deg C (North Sea winter) to +30 deg C (tropical offshore)
RV Power Group addresses this with 316L stainless steel shells (or duplex SS for ultra-long deployments), EPDM O-rings for UV/ozone resistance, and polyurethane cable overmolds that resist hydrolysis and biological attack.
Compatible Product Series
- Micro Circular Connectors (monitoring sensors)
- Subsea Ethernet & Data Connectors (real-time monitoring data)
- Split-Type Connectors & Penetrators (junction box penetrations)
- Low Profile Submersible Connectors (inspection cameras)
- Underwater Coaxial (RF) Connectors (acoustic monitoring)
